For dining room, do not choose a chandelier that is wider than your dinner table. Select a chandelier that is half the size of your table. It should be hung at about 30 to 36 inches above the table for good illumination.

You have to consider your light requirements. Always take note of the recommended bulb wattage for them to have proper illumination. In general, a total wattage of 200-400 is sufficient enough to light up a room without blinding anyone. Also, there are dimmers in some models that enable you to adjust the amount of light.

Take care of your chandelier. These are quite expensive so you need to take good care of it. You are not required to clean it up everyday as it is not practical and necessary. Cleaning it once or twice a year is sufficient to keep it shiny. As a precaution, always make sure that you have turned off the lights before starting cleaning it to prevent accidents.
