Utilizing a wireless pet fence to keep your pet safely within the yard is not only easy to set up, but it is also a safer alternative to traditional fences. Some feel that these types of fences are not safe for the dog and that it could cause serious damage to them over time. The truth is, if you take the time to train your dog to avoid the fence boundaries then they will keep away from them altogether. Even better is that wireless fences do not do any long term damage because of the small amount of electricity they use, making them completely safe.

A wireless pet fence is actually is actually more effective at keeping your beloved pets within your yard, and hence safe from outside dangers. than other fence types. Some feel that these types of fences are not safe for the dog and that it could cause serious damage to them over time. However, it will be relatively easy for you to train your pup to avoid the boundaries of your property so they will not get shocked often. What’s more is that wireless fences do not do any long term damage because of the small amount of electricity they use, making them completely safe.

So many people feel that these fences are not safe because of the jolt of electricity that is sent to your dog when they get too close to the system’s wire. The fence is actually an electrically charged wire that runs underneath the ground around your yard. Your dog must wear a special collar with a receiver to make the wireless pet fence effective: when the collar gets near the wire, they are jolted. Often two or three times of experiencing this jolt is enough to deter your pooch from getting too close to the outside of the yard, but you are still going to need to train them to ensure that they don’t have to get shocked every once in a while.

These types of fences are also affordably priced in the low hundreds, making them a much cheaper alternative to wooden fences. They are also easy to install. To install, you need to dig around the outer diameter of your lawn and lay the wire underground. Then set up little markers around it to show where it is and put the collar on your dog. It is very easy and takes almost no time at all.

While caging your dog up in your yard may seem like it is going against their nature, it is necessary to ensure their safety. Keeping them on a leash can be painful and is almost always constricting. And dogs are never happy to be tied to a tree or a post. They want to have free range of where they live and play, and you can give them that within reason.

Do not worry about the safety of your dog if you decide to go with this type of fence. While training may be difficult and it seems cruel at first, but your pooch will figure it out in no time. Soon enough they will be running and playing happily within your yard. Finding a happy medium with your dog is the best way to go, and you can do that with a wireless pet fence. Dogs love to be able to run around, and you are happy knowing they are safe from passing cards and other dangers.

Worried that your dog might jump the fence and run away? A wireless pet fence can help relieve those worries and help you become closer with your dog.

Dog urinary tract infections are common among–% of the dog population in the entire world. The culprits behind dog urinary problems are bacteria which have infiltrated the dog?s body. Bacteria enter the dog?s internal system through the food it eats and the water it drinks everyday. In some instances, bacteria gain access to the dog?s urinary system through its external urinary openings. This is most common in female dogs because they have shorter urethra than their male counterparts, making it easier for bacteria to penetrate.

There are several ways to tell if your dog is suffering from urinary tract infection. It is important that as a dog owner, you be alert and knowledgeable enough to know the telltale signs of urinary tract infection in your dog. Some symptoms may include blood in the dog?s urine, a foul smell in the dog?s urine, a change in its urinating pattern, and an abrupt change in its behavior. If you notice any of these symptoms, consult a veterinarian so your dog would immediately be given proper medication.

Dog urinary tract infection is a rising health problem in today?s society. Previous studies have revealed that approximately–% of the entire dog population in the whole world is bound to contract canine urinary tract infection.

The most effective way to tell if your dog is suffering from dog urinary tract infections is to observe your dog?s urinating habits. Check if your dog has enough urine every time he pees. If you notice that your dog has to make several attempts before it can excrete urine out of its body, chances are it is suffering from dog urinary problems. A worst scenario is your dog not being able to urinate at all. In this instance, you have to take your dog to the veterinarian immediately as it may already be suffering from a serious case of bladder problem.

Another way to tell if your dog is showing signs of dog urinary problems in their early stages is to observe your dog while taking it out for a walk. Any sign of irregularity, such as cringing in pain, may be a sign that your dog has urinary problems. Foul-smelling urine, blood in the urine, tender bladder, and a reduction of the amount of the dog?s urine are signs that you should bring your dog to the veterinarian immediately. If left untreated, your dog could suffer from a more severe case of infection and eventually die.

A dog with UTI may live for a long time without feeling any symptoms at all. There may be even times that the infection will just disappear on its own without being treated. However, a dog may become very ill if it is left in this condition for a very long time without medical attention. Dog urinary tract infection could lead to more severe infections if left untreated for so long. You can tell if your dog is suffering from UTI by checking for any of these symptoms: ? A change in your dog?s behavior ? A change in your dog?s urination habits ? A foul smell in your dog?s urine ? Blood in your dog?s urine ? Fever ? Fatigue ? Straining when urinating ? Tenderness of the lower area of the stomach

Other than the herbal methods mentioned above, another natural remedy for urinary tract infection in dogs is to give your dog ample amount of clean water to drink everyday. Water flushes out bacteria and prevents them from staying and causing further damage to the gall bladder. Also, give your dog a regular bath. This will prevent the bacteria from spreading into the dog?s urethra and thus minimizes the spread of infection. Giving your dog dietary supplements which could boost its overall health and well-being is also a great way to help reduce the risk of spreading the infection. Dietary supplements rich in vitamin C and omega-3 fatty acids could help improve your dog?s immune system. Examples of these are apple cider vinegar and citrus juices such as lime juice and orange juice. Cider vinegar and citrus juices neutralize bacteria in the urine and in the process, prevent them from causing more harm.

The above-mentioned natural remedies for dog urinary tract infection are effective ways to help boost your dog?s overall health and well-being. However, it is still best to consult a veterinarian for whatever health problem your dog encounters. The veterinarian is the only person who could assess the true condition of your dog and who could administer the right medication and dose required to ultimately improve your dog?s condition.

If you are looking for a solution to urinary tract infection in dogs or looking for information on dog incontinence, look no further.

When I was a child dogs rarely wore dog coats. There was a wide spread myth that a dog’s fur was enough to keep them warm on cold winter days. Clearly, this was false as some dogs are simply not naturally suited for colder climates. The dog coats that were available were generally pretty ugly and generally pretty difficult to put on.

These days responsible pet owners know that it is important to protect your dogs from the elements. Accordingly, there are many, many different types of dog coats on the market. You can choose from the strictly functional to the flashy-splashy, from the moderately priced to the less-moderately priced. There are coat styles more suitable to short haired dogs and coat styles more suitable to longer haired dogs. Some dog coats are water-proof, while other coats are insulated. Some people like to have a lighter weight dog coat for the milder days. There are coats that your dog can step into, coats that wrap around with Velcro fasteners, and coats that are similar to capes with a waist band. Some coats designed for larger dogs have pockets for owners to carry items such as dog toys or gloves. A nice feature to look for in a coat is some sort of reflective strip to add to the safety of your pet.

These coats are available in a wide range of colors, fabrics and styles. There are so many different dog coats on the market that it sometimes can be difficult to choose the right coat for your dog. A few things to keep in mind should make choosing a dog coat easier.

1. Where do you live? Or what is the purpose of the dog coat? Is the coat really needed to protect your dog or is it really just to match your new umbrella? If you live in an area that rarely sees freezing weather then you needn’t worry about the warmth of the coat and, in fact, you should be wary of your dog overheating. If you live in an area that experiences severe winters then you should look for a coat that is wind proof and uses high quality fabrics such as gortex. You may also want a coat that is both breathable and water proof.

2. Machine washable. All dogs get dirty, even those who are on a leash and particularly in the spring thaw. Do yourself a favor and only consider getting a dog coat that is machine washable. Dog coats don’t need to be washed as much as people clothes but you should count on washing the dog coat in the mid-season and at the end of every winter.

3. How easy is it to dress your dog. If the coat is too difficult to put on then it will spend the winter in the closet and your dog will have a chilly winter. It is helpful to look for a coat with Velcro strip fasteners as these seem to be the easiest manner of dressing your dog. Also look for a coat that fastens at the back or side of the dog.

4. Size of dog coat to purchase. Before you start searching for the perfect dog coat you need to take a few measurements. Measure again the circumference if his neck and add 1 inch. Measure again around the broadest part of his chest and add one inch. Lastly, measure your dog from the start of her tail to the base of her neck. Take these measurements with you when shopping for a dog coat.

Holistic dog health care is becoming a natural way for pet owners to provide a dog health diagnosis so their cherished pets are always at their healthiest.

Holistic dog health care is becoming a natural way for pet owners to provide a dog health diagnosis so their cherished pets are always at their healthiest.

Perhaps the most important aspect for a dog’s health would be a unique blend of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients to make sure the joints, organs, and digestive systems make work in harmony. The skin and coat of your dog is probably the first sign either of health or illness in a dog. A great diet for your pet dog is holistic in approach, with meals consisting primarily, though not exclusively, of meat. The most important thing is to avoid processed foods.

Once you have a dog health diagnosis, you can go the conventional treatment way, or use a combination of various essential oils, flowering essences, plant extracts, and certain herbs. You can consult with a holistic veterinarian, or you could do your own research on holistic dog health care and run your ideas past your vet before embarking upon a holistic treatment regime. These ancient healing practices have in recent years found their way into pet care and are now becoming increasingly popular as more and more dog owners are looking for safer, healthier, and less invasive alternatives to treating their pets.

Both calendula and chamomile assist with wound healing, in both dogs and humans, and chamomile can also be helpful in treating respiratory issues too. Constipation or diarrhea can benefit from crushed flaxseed mixed with lot of water. For dry, sensitive skin, oats are helpful for canine skin. And if your puppy cannot sleep well, the smell of lavender may help them relax so he sleeps soundly.

Ask your veterinarian for his or her input and recommendations when it comes to holistic dog health and using all-natural remedies for their care, but if your vet is not open to alternative health methods, do your own research, and you might even want to consider switching to a vet who is more open to alternative methods.

There are an increasing number of veterinarians these days who are putting great stock in holistic dog health, making it a large part of their practice. A veterinarian who practices holistic pet care treats animals as a whole, rather than identifying a certain problem and prescribing one type of treatment related to that specific injury or illness.

For example, your dog has suddenly come down with a red, irritating rash and has started losing some fur. A “regular” vet would most likely prescribe a topical ointment and an antibiotic medication to stop the infection and itching.

A holistic veterinarian will place more emphasis on determining the cause of the rash as the source of the infection before prescribing those two remedies. Before coming to a conclusion or offering treatment, the dog’s entire lifestyle are taken into account, incorporating his living environment, nutrition, exercise and all habits.

I don’t know anything about you but I’m sure you’ve had days when you just want to get away and spend some quiet time alone relaxing. It’s not about being lazy– timely mini vacations have proved to be quite helpful in decreasing stress while increasing productivity levels. You’re probably going, ‘I wish! Tell that to my boss.’ Well, what if your boss is the one who planned it all for you? Wouldn’t a personal retreat sound good?

Canines operate in a similar fashion. They need to find a secure place to nest in once in a while. It is a deeply primal instinct that goes back several decades, even centuries. A masters responsibility is to lead them into things that we know are good for their well-being. This is an article that aims to do just that with puppy training tips on the often misunderstood but terribly useful crate training.

At first I thought crate training a puppy must be this cruel method of torture inflicted on disobedient pups. Its not. Wouldn’t you know– it is actually a very helpful and friendly method of training dogs. Canines are not keen on sleeping in a place he already soiled. A crate trained puppy then would keep from eliminating until you let him out of his area; so release him to potty when he has spent sufficient time inside the crate. Make sure the said space is not big enough to have space between his sleeping and toilet area.

Put the enclosure in a room where people gather together. Do not rush the puppy into the whole process; it can be traumatic when done incorrectly. Place his favorite treats and things in and begin to feed him inside the crate. This is your puppy’s special place and you want him to associate the crate with happy and pleasant things. Never use this as a form of punishment.

Now the puppy is already accustomed to being inside the crate, close the enclosure for a few minutes at a time. Make sure he hears you and knows you are still in the room. If he gets upset for no pressing reason, do not let him out until he quiets down. If you do, he will use crying to get what he wants in the future.

If all goes well, the puppy will now be accustomed to a closed crate and is probably not noticing you as much anymore. Begin to go out of the room for longer periods of time. With the puppy toys distracting him, he is now at ease and even enjoying this time of play and quiet time. Keep in mind your puppy’s physical limitations and do not leave him alone for more than four hours at a time without going potty.

Follow these puppy training tips and you will regain a certain freedom most pet owners have forgotten about. A disciplined dog brought up in this method will be easier to schedule for sleeping and potty breaks. Not only that, an actual vacation will be possible now that you can leave your puppy for longer periods of time inside his little nook. After crate training a puppy successfully, you will wonder how you ever managed otherwise.

Sometimes, one article is not enough to relay all the information pertaining to a subject. That is the case with the recent column about Martingale collars and half check collars. The debate about the different types of choke collars was the subject but there was not space to discuss the proper fit and position of these types of collars, which is a very important aspect of using Martingale and Half Check collars.

In summary, Half check collars and Martingale collars are variations of choke collars that are considered to be more humane that the chain choke collar. These two types of collars were originally designed for sight hounds, such as Greyhounds, Whippets, Italian Greyhounds, Bolzoi, Saluki, etc., which are breeds that have necks larger than their heads, but prevents any dog from backing out of a regular collar.

Half check collars, or half choke collars, are typically manufactured of leather or nylon webbing and chain, while Martingale collars are made entirely of nylon webbing. Both collars have a dual-loop design which functions by tightening around the dogs neck when it is attempting to remove its head from the collar, yet it will loosen when the struggling dog stops fighting. The distinctive, restricted closing of the half check collar and the Martingale collar averts it from becoming too snug. Nonetheless, proper fit and positioning is crucial when using these types of collars.

The Martingale collar, which is generally constructed entirely of nylon webbing, has two loops. A smaller, control loop, contains a dee ring for attaching the leash. The second loop enables the collar to tighten or loosen to fit the dog perfectly. Buckles are sometimes added so the collar can be buckled around the dog’s neck.

To fit and position the Martingale collar correctly, slide it over the dog’s head and pull the collar vertically at the rear of the dogs ears. Adjust the collar at this point as this is the position where a regular collar slides over the head. When the dee ring is pulled, the control loop should close. The two pieces of hardware attached to the control loop should be no shorter than two inches from one another and they should never contact one another. If they do touch, the collar is too loose.

The Half Check Collar is similar to the Martingale except part of this collar is made with nylon webbing or leather and the other part is chain. It also has two loops that have the same functions as the Martingale collar. The control loop on this collar is the chain which is a circle. The dee ring is in this circle of chain and is also the attach point for the leash. This chain is also attached to the webbing or leather part of the collar with metal rings. The adjustment loop is in the part of the collar that is webbing or nylon.

As with the Martingale collar, the half check collar is positioned and fit in the same manner. When the dog pulls or tries to slip this collar over its head, the chain slides through the rings, tightening the webbing around the dog’s neck. The chain itself never tightens around the neck. The dog only feels the webbing or the leather. The distinctive clinking noise also serves as a training tool as the dog pulls against the Half check collar.

When learning how to properly fit and position these two collars, it becomes apparent how similar the Martingale and the Half check collars to each other. These collars work virtually the same way to control breeds that would normally be able to slip a regular flat collar over its head. Also, it is apparent that these collars are a more humane way to control dogs that the plain chain choke collar or the prong collar. The owner of the dog must be knowledgeable about these collars and how to use them so that no injury comes to the pet.

A dog owner ought to be well-informed about the various collars available and how to use them properly as to not cause injury to the dog. Jim Witt urges you to visit Country Brook Design to view the vast inventory of custom made Martingale Collars that are available in many sizes and colors.

Dogs are actually really clean animals. They won’t soil close to where they eat, or where they sleep. The thing is, a house is a completely different story. Living in a house is unnatural for an animal whose instincts would be to roam wherever she wants to go, so you will have to help her learn where and when she can relieve herself.

It is essential that you form good toilet habits for your dog as early on as possible. Trying to break the habit of a dog is quite difficult and it can be very frustrating. You need to use guidance and encouragement to help the pet. Animal behaviorists have some helpful tips that you can use to help with the housebreaking of your pet.

As we talked about, a dog is really sanitary. If a dog does soil accidentally in the wrong place, to him, it is going to be far away from where he eats. The same thing is true for the place where the dog sleeps as well. But, unless you find a good place for her to go and train her in that manner, the dog will think that anywhere not around the first two places mentioned are fine.

Training a fully grown dog is essentially the same as a puppy. You’ll need to take him outside every few hours and also 30 minutes after he eats. It is about repetition. Stay with the pet until she goes, and then praise her when she does. If she does not go, bring her back inside and try again in fifteen minutes. Watch her though. If the dog starts sniffing and circling take them out right away as this is a sign that she is about to go. If you keep an eye and help condition the dog, they will start to associate going outside with potty activities.

It is important to know that all dogs learn at different rates. Some dogs personality will cause her to go one way or the other. But, if you take her outside at the right time, it will go smoother. A puppy of less than four months old will need to go out during the night. Older puppies can hold it that long. A dog that cries to be let out has an urgent need. Get up and take her out, she needs every chance to succeed that she can get. One of the most important things to remember is that positive reinforcement is key to success. It’s just like working with a human.

Your approach and how you treat your dog will greatly affect the learning ability. If you catch your dog going in the act, distract her with a clap or call her name. Take her outside calmly at that time and praise her for finishing outside. Clean up any accident that you find on the floor. If the dog approaches during this time, ignore her. Don’t talk to or punish her at this point. The worst thing that you can do is to yell at her or physically punish her. This will cause her to fear you and to not bond as well to you. She wont connect it to the accident at all. Ignoring her is the best course of action here.

Not long ago, I purchased a new memory foam mattress. I immediately began to sleep better and wake up more refreshed. I wondered if any companies sold memory foam dog beds. Surely my elderly dog would benefit as I did. I soon discovered that memory foam dog beds do exist, and they are widely popular in relieving joint pain and arthritis in dogs.

Memory foam dog beds use the same technology as those made for people. When your dog lies on the bed, it conforms to their body and provides almost perfect support. Painful pressure points and stress on joints are eliminated. Your dog will rest and sleep in a more comfortable position. It is a fact that good quality of sleep is a factor in good overall health.

Memory foam dog beds promote excellent blood flow to tissues and organs. For chronic problems such as arthritis blood flow to the affected areas is crucial for healing and recovery.

Memory foam dog beds continue to provide support and comfort to your dog well beyond the life of the average dog bed. Don’t waste your money year after year replacing that worn out dog bed.

Dogs naturally feel safe and comfortable when lying on solid ground and memory foam dog beds provide for this feeling while relieving pressure points and providing comfortable support.

Memory foam dog beds are a must if your dog is suffering from: hip displaysia, osteoarthritis, or joint pain. Since most dogs will suffer from joint pain at some stage in their lives, using memory foam dog beds throughout their younger years can help prevent joint pain in their senior years.

Memory foam dog bedswill help dogs with arthritis live a regular joyful pain free existence.

For the most part dogs are energetic to do what their owners want and try their best to please when it comes to getting a reward for doing so. These are dog peculiarities that need to be exploited when it comes time to teach them tricks. It makes sense to take advantage of their natural tendencies. By building on these natural ‘dog’ tendencies and behaviors in combination with rewards to generate pet tricks, the procedure becomes easier than trying to teach a trick from scratch.

Watch what your dog does for his own amusement. Does he leap into the air chasing butterflies? Does he like to lay on his back with his feet in the air? If some kind of spontaneous behavior can be turned into an enjoyable trick, that will shorten the training process. Be ready to use a suitable hand signal and vocal command when this behavior is demonstrated and then carry through with an instantaneous reward.

For most dogs there are dietary requirements that you’ll need to pay mind to, and bearing that in mind you shouldn’t actually give your dog an excessive amount of treats. Treats are a great way to get started, but later on the hand signals and some praise will suffice. When you get everything down pat, you can decrease the amount of treats or stop giving them period.

Quite a few dogs learn readily after a few repeats and a voice praise or food reward. This usually makes teaching the “stay”, “come”, “sit” and other elementary commands quite uncomplicated. When you want to teach something a little more difficult it can be as simple as capitalizing on these basic commands and behaviors. As an example, the “down” command can be the jump off point for teaching “play dead”.

An alternative way to get your dog’s attention when working on some tricks is to utilize a favorite play toy. Using a chew toy or a ball your dog likes to play with, just out of his reach, quickly move it up and down encouraging him to jump while giving him the “jump” voice command. After repeating until he relates the command and hand signal with the act of jumping, eliminate the toy and use just your hand and the verbal command.

You should take advantage of the dog’s ability to smell, as well as his ability to smell better when he is close, as well as at long range. These abilities are actually quite amazing, and it can be used for different types of games including hide and seek. Hiding a favorite chew toy under a box is a great way to practice as he or she will find that toy right away. You can begin by hiding the toy close by and you can gradually move it farther so that it will be more difficult but doable.

What about giving you five? That’s a great trick for a dog, and it’s actually pretty easy. Most dogs have a tendency to give you their paw immediately, and you can show them your hand or “paw”, and then say ‘high five’ as they give you theirs. After a while this will become second nature to them, but at first you will need to reinforce this behavior using a treat.

Sometimes you may find that the dog doesn’t lift its pay when you want it to, in which case you’ll have to resort to other measures. You’ll have to physically lift their paw, but make sure you praise them and give them a treat. After a while they’ll do it immediately without you lifting the paw as long as they know there is a treat for them.

After a trick has been trained it’s not difficult to expand it. “Give me five” can easily be expanded into “sit up” by slowly elevating the paw so that the other one will automatically lift up. By then grasping both paws so that the dog is in a “sit up” position, vocalizing the command and supporting the proper reaction with praise or a treat, he will, with repetition, connect the dots.

Without a doubt there are many different types of training. A great deal of it is for behavior manipulation, safety, proper house manners, and so forth. Training tricks is for you and your dog’s amusement, exercise, and to help invigorate the bond between you.

Learn to pick the correct Dog Bedding for your dog. Don’t allow Puppy Potty Training become a time consuming or frustrating experience.
