A Customized Gift Idea – Digital Photo Frames

Over the last couple of years, the sales of digital photo frames have increased dramatically. They were one of the most popular gifts last Christmas. In the course of 2008 there were significant price cuts – in the first instance as a result of lower costs of parts and materials and then, later in the year, primarily due to pricing competition amongst the manufacturters. Whilst some of the popularity of these frames is undoubtedly due to keen pricing, that is far from the whole story.

Likewise, the technical advantages enjoyed are unlikely to account for the growing acceptance of digital photo frames into the mainstream. You can setup slideshows – great. You can have background music – great. You get a remote control – wonderful. It’s all good stuff – but is it a big factor for your mother or your granny? They are most likely to receive these frames as a gift after all.

Now that electronic frames aren’t just the preserve of gadget junkies and early adopters but have been adopted into the mainstream consumer market they are considerably more presentable. Whereas they were previously black and shiny metal constructions it is now possible to get removable surrounds which can be changed to suit the decor in your home. That certainly goes some way toward increasing their mass market appeal, but it still doesn’t explain their popularity.

The key factor that makes these frames such ideal gifts is the ease with which they can be customized before being handed over and also the ability to update the frame and its contents in future. Plenty people will take a little time – and only a few minutes are required – to load a few photos of family and friends, children, holiday snaps, whatever into the frame’s memory prior to handing their gift over. It means that they aren’t handing over some high spec electronic device – that nicely wrapped gift box contains a whole bunch of happy memories.

And it doesn’t end there. For the next holiday, family celebration, anniversary or whatever, they can simply pass over a memory card with a whole bunch of new snapshots on it – a kind of photographic family news bulletin if you like. A lot of the newer frames have Wi-Fi functionality so you can update photos without needing a new memory card.

That is returning to the technical features a little – but only since it makes the important thing possible – sharing memories with your loved ones.
